All of us know a lucky someone who can eat whatever they want as much as they want and yet still stay slim. That person who never has to shop for different size clothes each year because they somehow manage to stay the same small size over decades. You know who I’m talking about.

The reason for their simplistic weight management is simple; they possess a fast metabolism. People with high metabolisms can burn more calories no matter what they’re doing. They could be walking, standing in a bus queue, watching a movie, eating or even sleeping. It won’t matter; they still will be burning calories because they have a fast or high metabolism.

Most of us aren’t so lucky and in order to achieve similar calorie burning effects we will need to put more effort into burning the same amount of calories and fat. As frustrating as this may be there is no need to worry as there are ways of boosting metabolism.

Probably one of the most common and obvious ways to increase your metabolism is through regular exercise. Strengthening and toning your muscles will help a lot as muscles burn more calories than fat.

The other way, and probably more appealing way, is to change how you eat by selecting the right foods that help in the fat burning process or in other words speed up your metabolism.

Example: It takes more energy for the body to digest foods that are high in fiber and protein than foods high in fat. Calories = Energy, thus fat burning.

Below is a fat burning food list that will help you get started.

  1. Eggs: High in protein and contain vitamin B-12. If you’re worried about cholesterol then just remove the yolk.
  2. Beans: Great sources of protein, fiber and iron. Good examples are Lima beans, Kidney beans, navy beans, and white beans.
  3. Oatmeal: Not known to be the tastiest thing you can eat but with a little imagination you can get round that. Great for lowering cholesterol, fighting cancer and heart disease.
  4. Olive Oil: This is a “good fat” that the body needs and in moderation can help in many ways.
  5. Whole Grains: The body needs carbohydrates and whole grains are the best kind.
  6. Chicken: Fresh, lean un-packaged and cooked correctly offers a great source of protein increasing calorie burning.
  7. Jalapenos: Yes they are hot but if you can take the heat then you can boost your metabolism
  8. Habaneras: Extremely hot chili peppers. Same as the Jalapenos.
  9. Green Tea: This has a chemical that causes the nervous system to run faster which will help you burn more calories.
  10. Salmon: This contains Omega-3 fatty acids which are associated with a higher caloric burn.
  11. Turkey: Containing a great source of lean protein to help boost metabolism.
  12. Coffee: Yes it is true, caffeine helps burn more calories by speeding up the heart rate. Once again, use in    moderation.
  13. Pork: Lots of protein but make sure it is a lean cut.
  14. Tuna: Helps with metabolism levels.
  15. Lean Beef: For the protein it contains. The keyword here is lean.
